Day 16 - Malta
The last phase of our trip started today. We boarded a ferry out of Catania and headed to the island nation of Malta. This is a part of the trip that many of our delegates had been a little apprehensive about...but looking forward to it all the same. Here, we met and stayed with host families. I wrote about my wonderful family, the Cassars, in my other blog.
We arrived into Valletta Harbor, also called the Grand Harbour.
After going through customs, we were met by minivans which took us to meet our host families. Lindsey, Felicia, and I were with the Cassar family - Joseph, Maria, Keith, and Claire. We couldn't have been placed with a more wonderful family...although I heard other delegates voicing the same opinion. That must mean the Maltese are just wonderful families!
An interesting thing about homes in Malta is they don't have street numbers. No, you give your home a name. The Cassar family named their home 'Eden'.
I think we all felt very much at home with our new families. They were so very welcoming...so friendly...and there wasn't a communication barrier since almost all of them speak English. The Cassars speak Maltese to each other at home, but all of them know English.
We had new friends at the end of Day 16.
